The picture is a little blurry, but what you see here are some part-time students (those who attend their home schools, like Central York, for all classes but come over to Tech to take 1 class in the afternoon) working on my car. The benefit of me having a piece of junk car is that the Automotive students get LOTS of experience working on various types of problems.
We really appreciate our 4 participating districts in sending part-time students. Those districts are: Central, York City, York Suburban and Dallastown. Our school is enhanced by having these additional students in the building, and it's great that we can provide them the opportunity to take courses here.
Do you still do this now? This is a good opportunity for the students to do engine troubleshooting. They get to practice what they’ve learned in the classroom and get their hands dirty with oil and grease! I would also suggest you get a more advanced car – say, an electric car – so they’d get an even more in-depth hands-on experience. It would be costly, but very, very worth it.
