Automotive Students

In my visits to to shop areas, I am pleased to see students and teachers still hard at work. Many people (students and teachers on occasion, too) think May is the time to start relaxing in a school. However, this is the time to really work hard to gain all the skills that weren't discussed throughout the rest of the year. The two students in the forefront of the picture were working on cleaning up a diagnostic tool, and the two in the background were working on engine skills.

YCST Senior Dinner

Last night, the Senior Dinner was held at the Holiday Inn. The evening was fantastic! The senior class as a whole was celebrated! Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the senior class advisors along with the senior class officers (Uriah Ramsey, Metal Machining, is the president), planned an evening of wonderful food, great prize giveaways, and presentations that represented each student in the senior class.
I've uploaded some pictures from the event. Many of our dedicated staff
members, including M/T Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Bassett (picture #2, with a Diesel student), and Welding Instructor, Mr. Seitzer (picture #1, with a Welding student and parent), attended to honor our students.

In the bottom picture, one our Automotive students (you may recognize him as the one who received the Turnaround Award for our school in Dallastown last week), is posing with several of his friends.

District 4 Champs!

To those of you who don't yet know, the YCST Spartan Softball team are the Division 4 Champs! Today, they are supposed to travel to New Oxford to play Bermudian Springs in the County Championships. Dani Aikens, Metal Machining student, is the catcher for the varsity team, as only a 9th grader! Her name has appeared in the paper numerous times this season for her batting contribution to the Spartans' wins. We look forward to sending off the team in style today and hopefully celebrating the win tomorrow.

New Student Orientation

Last night, the Manufacturing/Transportation Academy held its New Student Orientation. What a fantastic group of students and families we have entering our school! I cannot wait until next school year to see what these students are able to learn and do. Pictured above is a project from the Weld shop that was on display last night. This is a project commissioned by an outside person, looking to convert a simple plow to have digging capabilities. Joe Landis, senior Welding student, completed this project.

This time of year, many of our students who are graduate wonder what's next. See the linked page here to show that the Automotive Repair training here can take you far. Dustin Wlazlo is now working as part of this racing team.

Presentation and Awards

On Monday of this week (5/3), Mr. Kessler organized a program with the Automotive Training Center. Many of our Man/Tran students attended one of two sessions to get the valuable information presented. Our students (of course) behaved very appropriately! Thanks to the students for their behavior and to Mr. Kessler for arranging this opportunity,

Last night, Mrs. Bassett and Mr. Merges attended an award ceremony in Dallastown with our 12th grade Automotive student, Cory Topper, for him to receive a Turnaround Award. Cory has also recently been accepted to college and passed his entrance exams with flying colors. We are so proud of Cory!
