Parent/Teacher Conferences

Wow, it feels like it's been forever since we've all been in school together! We have a busy 3 days ahead. Reminder for all: Tomorrow is 2nd semester Parent/Teacher conferences. The students are dismissed approximately 2 hours early so that we can host an afternoon session and an evening session of conferences. If you haven't yet signed up, it's not too late! Please call Ms. Brown at 741-0820 x5112 to schedule an appointment with your student's teachers.

Cross-Curricular Project

This awesome display was recently put up in Mrs. Abbott's classroom. She (along with Mrs. Dusman) teaches the subject of Geometry to many of our students here. Tyler Kibler (a welding student) created this display for Mrs. Abbott to post in her room. I love the linking of the technical area and the academics, which are just as important. I think this project is a great demonstration of linking these important types of learning.

Cool Toy

Not only do our Power Equipment students get to learn about repairing lawn equipment, boats and motorcycles, but they also get to work on fun toys too! Pictured above is one of our students who brought in a Christmas gift that he uses to get around town. He is using his knowledge of other small engines to apply to this machine that he owns. I did tell him that if he ever wanted to give it away to someone that I would be happy to take it! But seriously, it's great to see our students apply their knowledge in learning a profession AND in taking care of equipment that they themselves own.

Guest Visitor

Here is a picture of Mr. Kessler's Automotive students in action from last week. On Friday, Mr. Dwayne Combs visited the group for the day. He brought a lot of valuable knowledge from industry to share with our students. Thanks to Mr. Combs!

More Bragging

The first picture shows some of our Man Tran student athletes in the last Junior High (9th grade) home basketball game of the season. Some of the M/T students who played in the game were: Dalmar Dickson (Welding), Argenis Rivera-Rodriguez (Auto), Brock Rivera (Auto), and Jacob Lovelace (Diesel). The Spartans also won this game by over a 1o point margin against Biglerville! Great job!

The second picture is a follow-up to my last blog entry. Here are the Welding students who created the sign for the Automotive Program to hang up. Excellent work!

Surprise, surprise.....

Yesterday, the two Welding students responsible for making this hallway sign, Matt Bruce and Tyler Sprenkle, presented this awesome sign for the hallway leading into the Automotive area. The surprise part of it is that the goal is to have this sign posted by the time that Mr. Merges returns from medical leave this week. It will be awesome to have him back in the Auto shop.

I also want to thank Mr. Fadely and Mr. Gipson for their efforts in teaching our Automotive students in Mr. Merges' absence.

Still working....

Even with all the craziness of bad weather, school delays and school cancellations, our technical (and academic) classes are still hard at work. Here is a lesson yesterday - Mr. Kessler (you can see his safety glasses) is giving a demonstration to his students underneath the hood. It doesn't get any better than this. I can't wait to see everyone back in the building tomorrow (hopefully).
