Awesome Accomplishments

Man/Tran students have been making the news the past few days. First, on Saturday, the Spartan Bowling team grabbed the top spot at the regional state qualifyer in Reading. Diesel student Cheyenne Brown and Welding student Mat Shoemaker contributed greatly to the team win, plus, both students advanced in the singles' division, too. The regionals will be held in Philadelphia in early March.

Yesterday, we had two students place in the regional Skills USA competition. Chris Rodriguez, Collision Repair student, took 1st place in Automotive Refinishing. This means that he moves onto the State Competition!! What a great way for a senior to finish out his high school career!

Nick Trout, Power Equipment students, (only a 9th grader!!!) placed 2nd in Action Skills!

Congrats to all students mentioned above!

Skills USA part 2

As I arrived at school this morning (prior to 6:15 am!!!), another dedicated busload of students was preparing to pull out to travel to another Skills USA regional competition. The Man/Tran students I saw this morning are as follows: Rachel Styers - Welding, Nick Trout - Power Equipment, Cody Lloyd - Collision Repair, and Chris Rodriguez - Collision Repair. Good luck to these and all the students participating today, and I look forward to hearing about the accomplishment of our students.

Wrestling Match (and new semester start)

Last night, my son and I attended the wrestling match here vs. Bermudian Springs. One thing I realized is that my son doesn't really like this sport yet... ha ha! Anyway, I did get to see several Man/Tran students put in a good effort against their individual opponents. Two I remember seeing were Ben Aldinger (Auto) and Jordan Dehoff (Welding).

Just a reminder to all: today we start the 2nd semester, which means some new classes for all students.

Skills USA

On Monday, four Man/Tran students (along with approximately 45 others from other academies) traveled with Mr. Mark (Skills USA advisor and Power Equipment instructor) to Lebanon CTC to compete in the regional competition. 3 of the 4 students placed in their areas!! Awesome job! I've listed the winners and their areas of competition below:

1) Dillon Snider, 3rd place, Motorcycle Repair (and he's only a 1st year student!!)

2) Garrett Brown, 2nd place, Power Equipment Technology

3) Kyle Harrison, 2nd place, Metal Machining

Congrats to our Skills USA winners!

Collision Repair Visit

Earlier this week, I visited the Collision Repair shop to see students busily working on a car. This is the same care that different students will be working on replacing the rear door.

On another note, our bowling team is on a roll! Two nights ago, they beat a previously undefeated Ephrata team. Cheyenne Brown, diesel student, had the highest score of the match! Great job Spartan bowlers!

Cross-Curricular Project

Above is a picture of an automotive engine stand that was constructed by the Welding students. The project has then been turned over to the Engineering students who will reverse engineer blueprints for the design of the project, so that the Welding students can reproduce it with the proper measurements each time. These will be created for the automotive students, and Mr. Yarrison shared with me the plans to expand the measurements to create diesel engine stands. Finally, for a nice product, it could be sent over to the collison shop to be painted to match a custom car in a home garage.
What a great way for programs to work together!!

Visiting Shops

On Friday, I had the opportunity to visit the Metal Machine shop at the end of the day. The two male students were cleaning out the mill machines, while another student was sweeping - just like what would be done at the end of a week at a job site. That what I love about this school - career and real-world training all the time. At the back mill machine, you can see Mr. Jamison and a paraprofessional assisting the one student.

New Post, New Year

Welcome back all students, faculty and staff! The picture above is Mr. Heidler, demonstrating a technique to students in the Collison Repair program. Our teachers and students wasted no time getting back to work upon our return on Monday.

On Monday afternoon, I also had the opportunity to watch our Girls' basketball team (the co-op team with York Country Day) show a great effort against Fairfield.
